Our client is a strong and independent Top 20 practice with an existing network of nine offices in the UK, and offices in Guernsey and Geneva. They specialise in providing a wide range of expert financial and business advice to clients within the commercial, landed estates and agricultural sectors, with additional specialisms in the not for profit sector and the entertainment industry.
They currently seek a senior VAT Manager which will sit within the VAT group, which currently comprises 9 VAT specialists. The role will focus on two main areas: providing advice to existing clients of the firm (both direct to the client and to other professionals within the firm) and taking some responsibility for the marketing and sale of VAT services to non-clients. The role will be based in London but it is very likely that work will be required for clients throughout the UK and travel will be required from time to time.
With these in mind, the successful candidate will possess the following:
* experience of VAT across sectors and a good understanding of VAT principles
* good client handling skills
* must be personable and able to explain complex issues in a way non-VAT experts will understand - dealing directly with non-VAT partners and other technical staff will be a large part of the role
* must be able to demonstrate enthusiasm and motivation for selling services to existing clients of the firm and to non-clients, including taking responsibility for marketing projects
* willingness to speak at seminars etc
The ideal candidate must have strong technical skills and experience, and have a detailed up to date knowledge of VAT issues. Applicants ideally should be CTA qualified (or similar), with a good exam record and relevant experience as a Senior Manager. The successful candidate is likely to have a general practice background and should have been involved in all areas of advice. They should have experience of managing a client portfolio and have had exposure to one off special assignments and complicated technical areas.
